Dr. Francesco Milan

Assistant Professor

Dr Milan is Assistant Professor for the Rabdan Academy's Defense and Security program at Zayed Military University. Before joining the Rabdan Academy, Dr Milan was Lecturer in Defence Studies for King's College London, working at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham. 

With a decade of experience in professional military education at the international level, Dr Milan has taught at the Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) and the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS); he first held the position of "Command and Operations" Module Director, and then took over as Deputy Director for the Intermediate Command and Staff Course - Land. In that capacity, he co-designed the Module "From Daesh to Donbas", focusing on dynamics of contemporary conflict such as the use of proxies, urban warfare, and emerging disruptive technologies.

Prior to joining the Rabdan Academy, Dr Milan was also Associate Fellow with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), where he carried out research on violent non-state actors such as Al Shabaab and Daesh.

Dr Milan obtained his PhD from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London in 2015.
